From Creation to Resurrection… looking forward to Good Friday

Deep Under

This is Easter Week and I received a message from our “Friday Project” leader that our church Trinity Presbyterian in Prescott, AZ was having a very unique church service Friday evening, in remembrance of Good Friday.

No pressure here… “Do you happen to have a couple of paintings that would work well with our Good Friday Service? We are leading the congregation from the creation story through the fall/brokenness then through the incarnation to the cross and hopefully to the joy of resurrection.”

If you know my art most of it is brightly colored with lot’s of movement and positive-energy.  So I looked through my inventory.

Finding The Path

Yes, I did find two awesome paintings that will work well for their intended mission. These two paintings above are perfect in their story of hope.  The story of Christ is about finding love and being born again in hope and mercy.

“Deep Under” can be expressed as this…  “The murkiness of life can sometimes feel as if we are drowning. What if we dove deep to find our inner peace? Instead of drowning we would be floating in love.”

“Finding the Path” can be expressed as this… “After a bout with cancer I attended a life changing retreat to transition to  a new life path.  I traveled from darkness to light, as I opened my eyes to God’s marvelous creation of me.”

So even the darkest of paintings can shine with the light of resurrection. I am looking forward to Friday night, and the Friday Project. 6:00pm at Trinity.

Painting Flowers

Spring Garden  12″ X 16″ Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas

One of my new students asked if I could show her how I create flowers, this is the demo I created during the lesson.  Basically this is hundreds of random strokes. One  layer upon the other, fluctuating between light and dark; building up one layer at a time to create color, energy and movement.  In the process a lot of texture is laid on the canvas.

This technique is the underpinning of all my work, layer upon layer, color upon color.  This leads to a loose contemporary feel.  I love working with students.  Teaching is really my superpower and moving an artist into their best creative self is a joy to me.

If you want to learn how to paint this way, in an intuitive style with lots of color energy and movement.  I have a great workshop in April in the beautiful Ponderosa Pines of Prescott, AZ. Seats are filling up, but there are still one or two waiting for you.  Check it out here

What is my super power?  That question got asked me in a webinar that I attended. It got me thinking; I am good at many things but what am I excellent at?  Well, painting is one thing, at least that is what many of my collectors tell me.  I have also found through the years that I am excellent at teaching and communicating.

I have also had many visions of myself as an older women and how that will play out in the future. A long flowing dress, beautiful grey hair curling over my shoulders and walking down a beach on a sunny afternoon.  If I am to believe that image it corresponds beautifully with my plans for the future.

Teaching art workshops is what I do several times a year and I will begin expanding that this year.  How about a destination retreat where we paint all day and relax all evening and find some time to walk on that beach.  I am taking baby steps by finding a few new locations for off site workshops, I have a couple of resorts right now that may be able to accommodate me a few guests and a yoga instructor. Wouldn’t that be fun, exciting, and helpful to many of you!

For the present, I have designed a two-day workshop that I am test driving on April 20-21.  It is the beginning of an expanded workshop that will include some classes on the art of selling art, a bit of yoga and living in the moment. There is still room for two more students.  Register today

Painting A Bayou… what I learned from my student.

MOONLIT HERON

Moonlit Heron  20″ X 20″ Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Just so you know I am an Arizona Artist and have never visited Bayou Country nor stepped foot in Louisiana. However,  I do love all things water, and living on a lake in Michigan as a youth I did see my share of blue herons stopping for a bite to eat during their summer visit.

My talented student wanted to learn about painting with color, and movement so she suggested a bayou scene since she is from that part of the world. As for vegetation on the bayous I was remiss.  I had to admit I didn’t know what trees grew there, nor anything about the low hanging mosses. She taught me a lot when she brought in a beautiful photo-book of spectacular pictures of the Bayou.  I was hooked… and I had to paint that moss, and the heron and the cypress tree. This is why I love to teach, somedays I learn more from my students than they learn from me.

A total departure from my usual Southwestern landscapes.  I hope you like it.

Boutique Art

DREAMY LAGOON

Dreamy Lagoon 24″ X 24″ Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas

What is Boutique Art anyway? It is one of a kind art that is made in a small studio or shop with very limited additions.  It is SMALL in quantity but not in quality.  That is what I have come to believe is the best for my collectors and myself.  I am not like Thomas Kincaid who mass-produced his images in order to make millions.  A Dunmire in every home is not my goal.  I want a select few of discriminating collectors who know the value of beautiful art and  who want to get to know the artist and have a relationship.

I want collectors who get me… understand why I paint and identify with my calling.  People who love living positively, energetically, and lovingly.

So I brand myself as a boutique artist, an original one of a kind artist. Someone to get to know and if you “get me” you will love my “Boutique Art”.

Creating in a small studio, one painting at a time.
