Many times the inspiration for my paintings comes from an adventure I have read about and in my mind’s eye I have conjured up a feeling or mood. This is how “Blue Bayou” came about. I was experimenting with a palette of different shades of blue when a vision started to emerge. It was a hot sultry day in mid August when the monsoons had left the air humid and hot. It felt muggy, which I hadn’t felt in a long time. I was sweltering, and uncomfortable just as I imagined the people in Bayou country would be feeling. Thus the painting.
I choose the palette of blue, because it is a cool color rather than warm color. All the better to begin to feel refreshed. I loved the drama that the blue palette provided to this painting a juxtaposition between the heat of the day and the coolness of the color.
