Follow The Moon…become a seeker

Follow The Moon

“Sometimes I fall into a dream, magical and mystical.  Looking for fairies, or unmeet needs.  My heart drifts to those lost moments and I see it is good, for if I had found what I was missing I would not be a seeker.”

Pamela Dunmire, Artist and WRITER

Well I finally admitted that I am a writer…. what a funny feeling; for so long I have only thought of myself as an artist/painter of the spirit.  Yes I have been working on my first book, but I still could not say I was a writer.  I was seeking my own approval, I did not need any others.  Than as my spirit spoke in that mystical dream I understood.  I am what ever I choose to be.

“Follow The Moon” was done in a private workshop that I held in my studio for an accomplished artist who chose to spread her wings and create something different.  Just as she experimented I did too and pushed myself harder; as I taught her I taught myself. As this amazing painting appeared on my canvas, the spoken word also came into my heart and that is when I knew… I am not just a painter but also a writer.

A Straight Line Curved

A Straight Line Curved

“A Straight Line Curved” now hanging in the Spotlight Room at Mountain Artists Gallery

I have been silent for a while because I have been in the studio creating beautiful and soul-searching works for my new exhibit “A Straight Line Curved”.  It was a work of love.  The Intent for me behind this new exhibit with my friend and glass artist Patty Lindsey, is to radiate through my writing and art that any who might read these words and see these works of art will feel moved to spread love into the world.

All of my works have a small descriptive paragraph of my thoughts and feelings behind the creativity.  My intent is to draw the observer into the painting and feel the emotions that I have seeded into each work of art.  Fifteen of my most beautiful pieces are on display.

Patty’s glass art is such a lovely complement to my pieces and it has been a real pleasure to exhibit with her.  As one artist I truly admire, Deanne Brewster, wrote to Patty and I, “Congrats on a great Spotlight Room show.  I sat the gallery on Saturday and was able to absorb what you two have created.  Spectacular.”

The shows opening nite is this Friday July 24th, from 5pm-7pm, At Mountain Artist Guild and Gallery in Prescott, AZ.

Thanks everyone for all your support and belief in my talents.  I hope to see as many of you as possible on Friday night.

Earth Day……..all year long.

Ok, I missed writing a post on Earth Day. I fully meant to…but I was out in my Iris garden. So love when my Irises bloom. They are one of my favorite flowers.

Iris Garden

Iris Garden

Living in the Mountains of Arizona I have to contend with two things when gardening. The scarcity of rain, we are a desert state you know, and Javelina.  If you have never seen one they are wild pig like creatures that roam the state.  Javelina will eat almost any tubular plant but Iris; so I have a lot of Iris. Rain that’s another story. The drought in the Southwest has been long and hard.

Which brings me to global warming and Earth Day…. We are slowly killing our mother Earth. Have you seen California this year? I just got back from a trip there and it has dried up.  People are losing their homes because their water wells have dried up.  Towns are sinking a foot a year in the Central Valley because the underground water tables are depleting and the ground above is sinking.

Much of this is from our dependence on fossil fuels, we are warming the earth and it is drying up folks.  Ok, Ok, you people who live around the Great Lakes and the East Coast will probably differ, you had record snows this year, but 2014 was the hottest year on record.  How about those storms?  Storms have become more violent and more numerous.  Need I go on with the ugly truths.

Being a positive person I look to the future and the remarkable talent of the human race.  We can fix this with the help of science and everyone doing their part.  I for one watch my carbon foot print.  Drive only when I need to, use as little power as I can. I recycle, have a zeroscape landscape I don’t need to water any of my plants because they are all drought tolerant.  I use sustainable products and eat organic foods.

We can all do a part to ensure that our heritage continues and that our children’s children will have a bright future.  Every day is Earth Day.

I have been traveling for a week, one of my favorite places for rest and relaxation is the Central Coast of California.  An old haunting ground, where I worked and played before I moved to the mountains of Arizona.

Now I go back just to rejuvenate. I have a favorite place to stay on the ocean and favorite restaurants that beacon me to eat.  I travel into wine country to visit my favorite vineyard and sip their magical libations.

Moro Rock

On the way back down the coast I love to stop in the port of Moro Bay where the giant rock (moro) stands in the bay.  It is a rarity to see it without fog, but this trip it was magnificent.

While in Moro Bay I always take time to visit the Estuary.  It is one of the largest preserves on the West Coast.

Moro Bay Estuary

Moro Bay Estuary

When I came home and walked into the studio, I wanted to paint that feeling of total rejuvenation.

I could have chosen Pismo Beach where I look across San Luis Bay to Point Sal, the view from my balcony every morning; Instead, I chose the Estuary.  The smell of sea the taste of salt the pulse of life during high tide. The Majestic White Egrets standing tall in the marsh grasses. That magical mystical place between sea and land where life thrives abundantly.

How many apps do you have on your phone or pad.  They make life easier, and we believe life more successful.  The more apps the better, right?  You look at the successful people in your life and they know how to make things happen, it must be all those apps that give them such power, the slickest of images, the fastest connections, and the most power.

Jonathon Fields in his Good Life Project talks about “The Killer App Is You”. The external stuff is great, but it is so much more… Jonathon emphasizes “Instead of”, “rather than”, “in addition to”.

Instead of buying all those bells and whistles to make you look and sound successful rather than making yourself out as the latest and greatest, in addition to those things, work on your own inner greatness.  Find your strengths, integrity, honesty, and vision; then put those attributes into action.  This is what will make you successful, the latest power app is you.

Masquerading…as yourself

Do you sometimes hide who you really are?  We tend to have different masks for different roles.  Our work a day mask, our social mask, and our mask to hide our emotions. Just like the flowers above who are hiding behind the foliage, we tend to hide behind our masks. We masquerade so people don’t have to see the true us…. It might be scary to let someone see the real you. What if they don’t like the real you?

But… If people can’t see the real you, how will they let down their guard so you can see the real them?

My guess is that once the mask is off people will like you, trust you and feel that you are valuable as a friend and visa versa. What would your world look like if you took off your mask?  How about Masquerading as yourself, see the beauty of it all.

Diving Deep…. into yourself.

“Deep Down” Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas, 30″X30″

I have been doing deep diving lately, not in the ocean… but into myself.  I find that the spring or vernal equinox is a time when I move in this direction.  It is a time of renewal when the earth buds forth, and I start to move forward too.

In order to move forward you need to know where you have come from.  So I dive deep into my soul and look at my journey so far.  It is not always easy to look at yourself, we are our worst critics. Instead of looking at my faults I focus on the good things that have come from me; the blessings and bounty that God has given me; the beauty of my life, the abundance I have; and the amazing things I have done.

We can all find something to be thankful about, or even proud of; think back to something hard-won that you persevered through. If you look at only the positives in your life and give gratitude, you will find that your path will be much different from dwelling on the negatives.  Your journey will be smoother, your path clearer and more rewarding.  If you dive deep you will find your Why for living and doing what you do.  Take some time to dive deeply into your self this spring it will make your year all the better.

Reflecting Back, memories in Black and White

Remember those old black and white photos, of the family.  Old Granny on the steps of the house looking stern along side grandpa.  I have a few of those, that have been passed down to me from my mother’s side.  My dad’s side of the family is more mysterious, no pictures and no memories but ironically I can trace the genealogy back to pre-revolutionary war times, but no black and whites.

Many of us would just as soon not identify with our ancestors… but I think it is a key to who we are. How far back did that talent for art materialize? Where did I get that wry humor?

I worked for many years in the adoption field.  I tried very hard to get as much information as possible about birth families.  It is important to know…  It makes one whole… I even tried to pass along some of those old black and whites.

We all innately need to know where we came from; remember the mini-series Roots. Ancestors help identify that you came from a clan, even if you have never lived with them.  The collective consciousness of your family is always with you; it is one of the reasons, you are who you are.  Go dig out those black and whites this weekend.

Winter’s End…The Cycle of Life

I am seeing the beginning of Spring in my neighborhood.  Beautiful Crab and Bradford Pear trees are in full blossom.  The days have warmed and the birds are chirping profusely.  It is amazing what a few weeks can bring forth.  It was only a month ago and we were blanketed by snow.  Nature and mother earth have cycled through their darkness and come full circle into the joys of Spring.

That is how our cycles of life flow, sometimes we face bitter cold and darkness, followed by times of plenty  and sunshine.  Many of us ask,” why can’t it always be light and happiness that shines on me.”  As a person of faith I know that you must face the cold in order to appreciate the warmth; hardship in order to recognize abundance; poverty of spirit in order to find the wealth of life.

However, it does not mean you need to be unhappy.  Take those cycles and use them as an opportunity to grow and bring clarity. Find purpose in all you do for Winter’s End is here and Spring is just around the corner.

Finding Your Path……

“Finding The Path” Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas, 30″ X 30″
http://www.pameladunmirefineart.com

It took me many years to find the right path, should I say I was a late bloomer.  One thing for certain, people would always show up at my door to talk.  I guess that is why I eventually became a counselor.  But….. there was that other side of me.  The creative person that was just waiting to jump out.

I remember watching my father paint, I loved that he could make something come alive. I wished that I could do that too.  But I would tell myself that I could never do what my father did, he was so good at it, and I, well was just a clumsy girl. It wasn’t until much later in my life actually when I was 37 that the passion of being an artist started percolating in my soul. That is how things come to me, they bubble and swirl around until they pour forth into action.

It was an epiphany, when I visited Ghost Ranch, that wonderful place in New Mexico where Georgia O’Keeffe painted so passionately; that I knew I was to become a painter.

I now know many years later that the path I took could only be right if I incorporated both my love to help people and my passion to paint, ergo this blog, my upcoming book and healing seminars through art.

I found my path and humbly hope that I can make a better world, a kinder place, a happier and joyful life for those I touch.
