PRAISE and PAINTING

H0215 24x24One of my morning rituals is meditation, prayer and praise. Thanking God for everything.  It steadies my life and makes each day flow in a perfect sequence. It does not mean my day is always perfect but it sure is a lot smoother than if I didn’t meditate. As an artist I have combined painting with this.

Each morning when I step into the studio I create a study on Vellum, usually about something that struck me during meditation.  I call them praise paintings. This year I am creating a series of  1/2 day Praise and Painting Workshops. These workshops will be for anyone, non-painter as well as artists who want to grow their practice of meditation and praise. All supplies will be provided the only thing to bring is your willingness to learn a new form of praise and thankfulness.

My favorite place to hang out besides my studio is at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Prescott. So they are graciously hosting this event in the Ballard Learning Center.

New On-line Workshop

I have dove head first  into on-line teaching and hoping to bring my knowledge to a broader base. Not everyone can fly into Prescott for a workshop so I thought I would condense my workshop  “Creating Energy and Movement with Acrylics” into 7 lessons that you can work on in the privacy of your own studio or at home.  Learn about it here.

It has been extremely strange for me to talk on a video, which I think is amusing because I can give lectures and workshops and talk in front of people with no problem. Put me in front of a camera and I suddenly find it hard to speak.  So as I get over this learning curve, and finish all the videos I hope to launch the new course by August.

I am actually enjoying putting this all together, besides demonstration videos there are downloads for handy references, and Powerpoint voice overs for a variety of learning experiences. I will also be having a closed FB group for those who want to share their experiences of the course with other course participants.

There are several ways to get in on the fun as I complete the course.  I am looking to find a beta group that wants to take the first round at an extremely discounted price for your honest feedback and critique, or you can wait till the bugs are all out and get the full experience. Either way let me know by signing up for my e-mail list if you are not already receiving this in your inbox. You can also drop me a comment below if you are reading my blog or respond to this  by email if you like.

Reaching Your Highest Potential

REACHING UP

Reaching High 24″ X 24″   TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS PAINTING

As you know I love to paint inspiring and up-lifting pieces.  I thought these Cone Flowers were just right for that kind of motivation.  Stretching themselves to reach to the sun, they are the tallest plants in this garden.  Just like these Cone Flowers we should be reaching ever upward, seeking to have a most productive and joyous life. Being the best we can be, and living the life of our dreams.  It doesn’t matter what stage of life we are in, we can always look forward to greatness, joy and abundance.  Whether that means we volunteer our time to help others, travel to places we have always wanted to go, or seek new talents, we can always reach our highest potential.

Go out this week and find the time to do something wonderful.

What is my super power?  That question got asked me in a webinar that I attended. It got me thinking; I am good at many things but what am I excellent at?  Well, painting is one thing, at least that is what many of my collectors tell me.  I have also found through the years that I am excellent at teaching and communicating.

I have also had many visions of myself as an older women and how that will play out in the future. A long flowing dress, beautiful grey hair curling over my shoulders and walking down a beach on a sunny afternoon.  If I am to believe that image it corresponds beautifully with my plans for the future.

Teaching art workshops is what I do several times a year and I will begin expanding that this year.  How about a destination retreat where we paint all day and relax all evening and find some time to walk on that beach.  I am taking baby steps by finding a few new locations for off site workshops, I have a couple of resorts right now that may be able to accommodate me a few guests and a yoga instructor. Wouldn’t that be fun, exciting, and helpful to many of you!

For the present, I have designed a two-day workshop that I am test driving on April 20-21.  It is the beginning of an expanded workshop that will include some classes on the art of selling art, a bit of yoga and living in the moment. There is still room for two more students.  Register today

PARK AVENUE ART

CRANE CROSSING

“Crane Crossing” 24″ X 24″

I have recently been given the opportunity to teach what I love, ART.  This year I wrote an aggressive business plan for my company.  I must admit that when I was through with it I wondered how this would all come about.  My bottom line is that I wanted to make a living doing what I love best, ART.

I decided that I would trust in my partner God, and that I would take all opportunities that he set in front of me.  Not only do I sell my art but I teach it.  I have a small base of students that take lessons from me; I also run workshops 4 times a year.  I have wanted to do more of this work, but have never had enough space in my studio to accommodate a large group.

God has set before me the opportunity to run a thriving school to teach visual arts.  It is at a space very familiar to me.  Park Avenue Arts, it is where Park Avenue Theater has git’s roots, and where I have designed sets for many years. It also houses Debbie Place who teaches vocal lessons  and will be adding Le Anne Lawhead, who teaches flute. Both these ladies are prominent in their fields. I now have the opportunity to teach visual arts in a great space and will start by filling a visual art curriculum for home-schooled students. I will also be doing one day painting retreats for adults and youth.

In July I will be teaching a two-day workshop, “Creating Positive-Energy Art”.  This is the perfect time to experience the cool summer breezes of the Arizona mountains.  We can spill out unto the creek side park for some Plein Air painting.  I am just loving the energy this space creates.  Trinity Presbyterian Church has created this Art Center to fill a gap, a nurturing place for both children and adults to find their passions, their way in life and the opportunity to grow closer to God.

CREATING POSITIVE -ENERGY ART

FOREST BASIN

Forest Basin

I have discovered over the years that I love to teach and confab with other artists.  It brings me as much energy as it does the student.  Many times I learn from them how to be a better teacher, nurturer and friend.  This year I embarked on a new journey of discovery with my first workshop on Creating-Positive Energy Art.  I realized I needed to kick  it up a notch, and stretch my possibilities along with my students.

What I paint is not all that unique, but how I go about creating a painting may be.  First off I have evolved into a mark maker.  Tiny strokes off nothingness, becoming something.  It feels very magical when an image in my mind’s eye evolves into an image on canvas solely by creating small stokes of energy.

I start off remembering an event, a life circumstance or a picture; than I create a story from memories or feelings.  This becomes my story, unique to me seen through my own mind’s eye.  I hold it in my heart and then I put down my first mark.  I choose my colors by the mood that the memory brings. Slowly I add other colors usually starting from the top of my canvas and moving downward. Magically I start working, sometimes that memory will evoke another feeling, and than I am off in another direction.. It is a journey of self-discovery.  Each painting unique, created in the moment. It maybe realistic or abstracted solely based on the emotions brought to the surface.

In my workshops I try to teach this technique to help open the artist to greater possibilities.  It is not always easy and I see them struggle, it is hard for an artist to lose control and not dictate the direction of the painting. But than the magic happens, I will get an e-mail a few weeks later from a student telling me I showed them a new way of seeing. That it was freeing to let their intuitive side dominate the canvas.  They like the outcome,  they don’t mirror my technique but they create their own story, a story unique to them and a painting that is all their own.

I call it Creating Positive-Energy Art.

Make it a Good Year

images

Well here we are at the cusp of 2017 and an opportunity to start again.  I always love the new year especially now after the trying year that 2016 was.  We lost a lot of wonderful people including a dear member of my extended family.  Plans that I had to move closer to my family proved not to work out; for the best I believe, but at the time it was very difficult. Of course there was the election and no matter what side you were on, it was difficult.

So now I look forward to 2017. The last week of December I always tie up louse ends and finish setting goals for the New Year.  I don’t really play with resolutions, I know myself to well. They will be broken by February.

One of my upcoming jobs in January will be starting the ELF sets for Park Avenue Theater, the wonderful Youth Theater in Prescott.  These kids are outstanding, and I love it so much when they see the sets for the first time.  All the hard work is worth it when I see the smiles on their faces15380813_988769827896195_747644552655797389_n

January 13, and 14, is my New Workshop “Creating Positive Energy Art”.  If you have been sitting on the fence now is the time to act.  I have 2 seats left.workshop-pic

Here are a trio of happy painters who took my “Having Fun With Acrylics” Workshop.  I know you will have a fun time just like they did.  Here is a link to the Workshop.

I have also spent the year-end re-launching a new website where you can find my e-commerce site.  This is where you can purchase my original paintings and giclee prints of many of my popular pieces. I will be selling gift products after the first of the year so please sign up for my newsletters so that you will know when the new launches are happening.  I may even surprise you with a webinar, workshop this year for those out-of-towners.

Lastly, I have a show coming up on February 10th at the Duce in Phoenix.  I hope to see many of my Phoenix tribe that night.  If you want advance tickets (they are cheaper than at the door)  Here is the link.

So Let’s all make it a good year.  HAPPY NEW YEAR,  and HAVE A PROSPEROUS 2017
