You will be seeing this everywhere

I am so excited that my book is finished and off to my awesome editor where his hands are massaging the pages. That’s Editor speak for making it flow so that it is a good read. This book is authentic and transparent as I describe my depths of lows and soaring highs as I travel toward the light and find my true authentic self. Only through Grace and Redemption did I find the strength to move forward .

Here is an excerpt from the back cover.

“Pamela Dunmire, acrylic painter and motivational speaker, shares her journey through life in a painterly fashion — layer by layer, with light and shadows and contrast. She describes times in her life that felt like dark spaces when painting her canvas, yet she found herself always drawn to the light.

Pamela is authentic and transparent as she describes the depths of her lows, and then she soars with high moments as she travels towards the light and finds her way. Pamela’s sound advice for living by faith and keeping positive will change your life forever.

A real tell it all book, it is not only a good read, but beautiful as she displays many of her original paintings throughout.”

Reaching Your Highest Potential

REACHING UP

Reaching High 24″ X 24″   TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS PAINTING

As you know I love to paint inspiring and up-lifting pieces.  I thought these Cone Flowers were just right for that kind of motivation.  Stretching themselves to reach to the sun, they are the tallest plants in this garden.  Just like these Cone Flowers we should be reaching ever upward, seeking to have a most productive and joyous life. Being the best we can be, and living the life of our dreams.  It doesn’t matter what stage of life we are in, we can always look forward to greatness, joy and abundance.  Whether that means we volunteer our time to help others, travel to places we have always wanted to go, or seek new talents, we can always reach our highest potential.

Go out this week and find the time to do something wonderful.

My #1 question? What’s yours?

PRESCOTT SUNRISE, 16 X 16 ACRYLIC ON 1 1:2 GALLERY WRAP CANVAS, $320.00 BY PAMELA DUNMIRE

“Prescott Sunrise”   Learn more about this painting

Hi Friends,

Today is a question and answer session.  So I will try to answer the #1 question that people ask about my art and let you ask me some.

People always ask,  “Why do I paint what I do?”

Short answer is that it makes me happy, but the long answer is more complicated. My previous career was in Social Work; twenty years working with families, with a Masters in Counseling Psychology .

I saw that people who had broken spirits rarely picked themselves up. A single reflection of hope, in many cases, could be the trigger to make all the difference. Art became my solace after a long day of helping others who were stuck in a mire of self-destruction and hopelessness. It brought normalcy and hope to my life, so why couldn’t it bring this to others? If I were able to help a person move into a positive direction simply by viewing my art or teaching them how to create their own art they could look at life differently and change their lives for the better.

It is little wonder I try to find that spark of hope in all I do. As an artist the themes of hope and positive energy carry through all my work. I choose to paint art that is full of movement, positive-energy, and color to uplift my spirit and the spirits of others. Through my workshops I teach others to find wholeness through art.

So there you have it… I paint to heal grief, disappointment, and failure. I paint to give hope to others. I paint to help people have a joyous life.

So ask away, and then let me ask you how my art can help?  When it comes to picking art for your environment, what is your single greatest challenge?

Have a great day and continue enjoying life to its fullest.

Pam

Spring… rebirth, renewal and resurrection

iria internet

“Iris”  16″ X 16″

As the seasons change so do I, winter barely left us when I was waiting for hints of spring, I have an Iris garden just off my deck, surrounded by my  creek and this is where I look each year for signs of spring.  Now Iris are one of the few flowers I can plant that our pesky Javalina don’t seem to have an appetite for.  Daffodils are the other spring flower that is not on their menu.  So these two flowers are planted everywhere in Prescott .  When the leaves start popping through the earth, just like clock work around the spring solstice I know spring has sprung.

This became my inspiration for a spring collection, which is all about flowers this year; specifically Iris. So from now through May you may see a lot of flowers blooming on my website.  A fresh inviting look full of promise and hope for an amazing 2018.  Isn’t that what spring is all about, rebirth, renewal and resurrection.

Morning On The Mesa

Morning On The Mesa

“Morning On The Mesa” 12″ X 13″ Acrylic on Gallery Wrap

Wow, this is my first post of 2018 because of six weeks working on a Wizard of Oz set for our local Youth Theater.  As their set designer I have been busy down in the basement of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Prescott, AZ creating a large, 7′ X 12′ story book that will be the backdrop (Center Stage) for the show.  But more about that on a later post.

So you can image how exciting it was to finally paint for fun today.  So I choose some of my favorite colors, purple and teal, and used their softest hue for each by adding white and formed a pastel palette.  Then I took my favorite subject a desert mesa and added a river (always wanting to quench my thirst) then drew my inspiration from memories.  A soft, dreamy painting of a sunrise, that mirrors my expectations for a new beginning to 2018; a year of possibilities in the studio for teaching, showing and selling art.

I am so glad to be back in the studio creating one panting at a time…

WHERE’S THE SNOW?

MARCH OF THE TREES

March of the Trees 9″ X 12″ Acrylic on 150 lb. pressed paper

I love when the seasons change and right on schedule the temps are starting to dip as Christmas approaches. Now for a little snow to cap off the holiday events.  However I don’t think that will happen this year.  It has been dry, dry, dry in the West.  I see my friends in California watch as their houses burn this past week and it saddens me.

Here in the mountains of Prescott we should be having snow, but all we get are the dreaded winds and more draught. I hold my breath hoping we do not suffer what California is going through right now.

So I go on with the season praying that Christmas cheer will abound and that winter snows will come and that I get all my commissions completed in time for gift giving. As an artist I can paint as much snow as I want and surround myself with paintings of snow, but I am dreaming of making snow angels and snow ball fights.

Musing about snow, one painting at a time…

REFLECTIONS

C0215 30x30

Reflecting Home  30″ X 30″ Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Today I am feeling quite melancholy, I think I am coming off the high of a great Open Studio Tour, some unexpected sales and a successful talk.  Exhaustion has settled in and I am sharing my vulnerable self.  The studio has become a working place more than a creative space. I have several pet portraits in various stages of development for customers, but I have not found time to create for me.

When I begin to feel overloaded like I do today I turn toward reflection. A time to look back and ponder how I got to this place. It is not always easy to consistently be up to the task of growing a business. Especially at my age, people say why haven’t you retired. The answer to that is simply, I like what I do. I find purpose in my mission of spreading joy and happiness to those who stumble upon my work. I love spreading positive energy through my workshops, talks, and paintings.  I love collaborating with other positive people and bringing something new and different into the world. I thrive on that spark of creativity.

It becomes more difficult each year as my energy drains faster than my ideas. So I have learned to pace myself, say NO when I have to, and pick what is important and let the rest slide.  Now is the time to nurture my soul and talk to my kids and let them know how much I love them and go on a much-needed date with my husband.

ASPENS

ASPENS

Aspens 14″ X 11″  Acrylic on 1 1/2″ gallery wrap canvas

Just down the street is a beautiful clump of Aspens, they are the first in the neighborhood to turn brilliant yellow. They herald in the passage of time and the dance of Autumn. The riotous colors of the pears and ash were cued to bring forth there graduar and I got a quick step to my gait. Yes Fall is my favorite season of the year; no wonder that my first demo of the Artist Studio Tour was this little gem.

This is nowhere in particular but it was nestled in my heart and spewed out on Friday last. Reminicent of Granite Mountain and the meadows of Aspen that grow in Flagstaff.  It appears to be a composite of beautiful memories of Northern Arizona.  God’s tapestry that brings me joy.

Enjoying the beauty of Autumn on painting at a time…

FAR AWAY LANDS

FAR AWAY LANDS

“Far Away Lands”  24″ X 24″ Acrylic on 1 1/2″ gallery wrap canvas

This last weekend was the Prescott Area Artists Studio Tour which I was honored to have participated in. This was my demo for Saturday and Sunday.  It is so full of energy brought in by all the visitors to the studio. The positive vibes along with feelings of love, swelled my heart and I created some place different and new, a far away place sheltered by everyone’s love and good wishes.

I love the chance to meet new friends and fellow travelers of life. It is an opportunity to share my story and to hear theirs. It is amazing how often we have things in common, or from the same area; It seems like a divine introduction, with God saying you will really like this person.  I always do and the circle keeps getting bigger and better.

Thanks to all who shared my studio this weekend, you brought a piece of happiness and blessed this place with abundance.

Meeting new friends one painting at a time…
