Listening More… to my America

across-the-pond

“Across The Pond”  30″X 30″ Acrylic on 1 1/2″ gallery wrap canvas

After a week of disappointment, grief and anger I had felt alienated from those I love. Our America divided feels somehow worse than a week ago.  Even with a divisive election campaign I still had felt that the majority of us wanted to see the America that I envisioned.

Now I come to see that my vision my have been tinted by those I never stopped to listen to.  The silent ones that I left behind.  They found their voice in our new president-elect.

I have always felt I was a caring and compassionate person, Christ driven to do my best by others. But now I see that I left some of the others behind.  I had not listened to the disenfranchised poor rural white people,  their privilege was not as white as my priviledge their opportunities where not as high as mine.  My fault has been that I did not listen to their plight as I did to the other disenfranchied; immigrants, people of color, urban poor.

Maybe it was the media, we never saw the other side. Maybe it was me not opening my eyes.

I still feel dishearten that a man such as our new president-elect will lead us the next 4 years. Crude and spewing hate, he became a whole segment of the nation’s mouth piece for those that were angry with my white privilege, my truth and my blindness to their needs.

I will find something good from this learning experience, my eyes are wide open now.  I will become a better listener.  I will continue to fight for the rights of others and be welcoming to all.  I will learn to tolerate our new president-elect, and pray that he finds his footing to lead this great nation.

I will continue to paint Positive-Energy into all my art, for that is one thing that our whole nation needs. We must continue to live positively, knowing that through loving each other, and listening to each other we will work with each other to make a new America inclusive to all people even those I have not heard.

“Across the pond ” the painting above is a vision of my home, my rural experience, my dream of hope, happiness and joy.  I share it with others and pray that all America finds their own vision of hope, happiness and joy.

Follow The Moon…become a seeker

Follow The Moon

“Follow The Moon” 24″ X 24″, Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas http://www.pameladunmirefineart.com

“Sometimes I fall into a dream, magical and mystical.  Looking for fairies, or unmeet needs.  My heart drifts to those lost moments and I see it is good, for if I had found what I was missing I would not be a seeker.”

Pamela Dunmire, Artist and WRITER

Well I finally admitted that I am a writer…. what a funny feeling; for so long I have only thought of myself as an artist/painter of the spirit.  Yes I have been working on my first book, but I still could not say I was a writer.  I was seeking my own approval, I did not need any others.  Than as my spirit spoke in that mystical dream I understood.  I am what ever I choose to be.

“Follow The Moon” was done in a private workshop that I held in my studio for an accomplished artist who chose to spread her wings and create something different.  Just as she experimented I did too and pushed myself harder; as I taught her I taught myself. As this amazing painting appeared on my canvas, the spoken word also came into my heart and that is when I knew… I am not just a painter but also a writer.

My Secret World.. things happen for a reason.

In my meditations there is a secret world where I go to envision myself. This world is full of energy, sparks of ideas and promises of creativity. This dynamic place transports me into my future… and I am free.

“Secret World” is one of my favorite pieces that I did in 2014.  It is now going to a new home in Ludington, Michigan many miles from its home on my studio wall in Prescott, Arizona.  The story of how it sold is quite magical, things happen for a reason.

"Following The Moon"

“Following The Moon”

The above painting “Following the Moon” was hung in my show “A Straight Line Curved”, that is running in the spotlight room at Mountain Artists Gallery in Prescott. I hung the show on July 15th but opening nite was July 24th.  Between that time it mysteriously fell off the wall and was punctured.  The gallery called me about the damages and asked if I would replace the painting with another.  So I brought in, You guessed it, “Secret World”.

When looking at the whole presentation I knew that “Secret World” should have been my first choice.  It really worked much better with the theme of the show and the energy on the walls.  A summer visitor to the area, came opening nite and fell in love with it, bought it and after the show it will be sent to her home in Michigan, which happens to be my home state.

All is well in my magical world of intention, love and higher self.  My painting has found it’s for ever home.  I am blessed and so is my collector.

A Straight Line Curved

A Straight Line Curved

“A Straight Line Curved” now hanging in the Spotlight Room at Mountain Artists Gallery

I have been silent for a while because I have been in the studio creating beautiful and soul-searching works for my new exhibit “A Straight Line Curved”.  It was a work of love.  The Intent for me behind this new exhibit with my friend and glass artist Patty Lindsey, is to radiate through my writing and art that any who might read these words and see these works of art will feel moved to spread love into the world.

All of my works have a small descriptive paragraph of my thoughts and feelings behind the creativity.  My intent is to draw the observer into the painting and feel the emotions that I have seeded into each work of art.  Fifteen of my most beautiful pieces are on display.

Patty’s glass art is such a lovely complement to my pieces and it has been a real pleasure to exhibit with her.  As one artist I truly admire, Deanne Brewster, wrote to Patty and I, “Congrats on a great Spotlight Room show.  I sat the gallery on Saturday and was able to absorb what you two have created.  Spectacular.”

The shows opening nite is this Friday July 24th, from 5pm-7pm, At Mountain Artist Guild and Gallery in Prescott, AZ.

Thanks everyone for all your support and belief in my talents.  I hope to see as many of you as possible on Friday night.

I’ve been away from the blogging circuit this last week due to a really bad sinus infection that threw me in bed and away from the world.  It gave me a really quite time to reflect on things, look at life and dig deep.

I find that sometimes life can get in the way to really living.  I am doing some energy clearing with a friend who is a wellness coach, and yes my sinuses are opening up and the world is coming back into focus.

It’s like my garden trellis, if it gets overgrown and unruly the leaves and vines take over choking out the blooms. That’s what happens when negative energy creeps into your life: muscles tighten, sinuses clog the headaches ensue.

Over loading life can cause negative energy, scheduling to many things and trying to meet the demands of a career and family sometimes stops you from really living.  Real living is savoring the moment, noticing the little things and finding gratitude, finding pure and positive energy in all you do; creating joy.

Take time this week to find your garden trellis, and trim out the negative energy, and you will find the blossoms ready to bloom.

Earth Day……..all year long.

Ok, I missed writing a post on Earth Day. I fully meant to…but I was out in my Iris garden. So love when my Irises bloom. They are one of my favorite flowers.

Iris Garden

Iris Garden

Living in the Mountains of Arizona I have to contend with two things when gardening. The scarcity of rain, we are a desert state you know, and Javelina.  If you have never seen one they are wild pig like creatures that roam the state.  Javelina will eat almost any tubular plant but Iris; so I have a lot of Iris. Rain that’s another story. The drought in the Southwest has been long and hard.

Which brings me to global warming and Earth Day…. We are slowly killing our mother Earth. Have you seen California this year? I just got back from a trip there and it has dried up.  People are losing their homes because their water wells have dried up.  Towns are sinking a foot a year in the Central Valley because the underground water tables are depleting and the ground above is sinking.

Much of this is from our dependence on fossil fuels, we are warming the earth and it is drying up folks.  Ok, Ok, you people who live around the Great Lakes and the East Coast will probably differ, you had record snows this year, but 2014 was the hottest year on record.  How about those storms?  Storms have become more violent and more numerous.  Need I go on with the ugly truths.

Being a positive person I look to the future and the remarkable talent of the human race.  We can fix this with the help of science and everyone doing their part.  I for one watch my carbon foot print.  Drive only when I need to, use as little power as I can. I recycle, have a zeroscape landscape I don’t need to water any of my plants because they are all drought tolerant.  I use sustainable products and eat organic foods.

We can all do a part to ensure that our heritage continues and that our children’s children will have a bright future.  Every day is Earth Day.

The Latest Power App…. is YOU.

How many apps do you have on your phone or pad.  They make life easier, and we believe life more successful.  The more apps the better, right?  You look at the successful people in your life and they know how to make things happen, it must be all those apps that give them such power, the slickest of images, the fastest connections, and the most power.

Jonathon Fields in his Good Life Project talks about “The Killer App Is You”. The external stuff is great, but it is so much more… Jonathon emphasizes “Instead of”, “rather than”, “in addition to”.

Instead of buying all those bells and whistles to make you look and sound successful rather than making yourself out as the latest and greatest, in addition to those things, work on your own inner greatness.  Find your strengths, integrity, honesty, and vision; then put those attributes into action.  This is what will make you successful, the latest power app is you.

Do you sometimes hide who you really are?  We tend to have different masks for different roles.  Our work a day mask, our social mask, and our mask to hide our emotions. Just like the flowers above who are hiding behind the foliage, we tend to hide behind our masks. We masquerade so people don’t have to see the true us…. It might be scary to let someone see the real you. What if they don’t like the real you?

But… If people can’t see the real you, how will they let down their guard so you can see the real them?

My guess is that once the mask is off people will like you, trust you and feel that you are valuable as a friend and visa versa. What would your world look like if you took off your mask?  How about Masquerading as yourself, see the beauty of it all.

Diving Deep…. into yourself.

“Deep Down” Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas, 30″X30″
http://www.pameladunmirefineart.com

I have been doing deep diving lately, not in the ocean… but into myself.  I find that the spring or vernal equinox is a time when I move in this direction.  It is a time of renewal when the earth buds forth, and I start to move forward too.

In order to move forward you need to know where you have come from.  So I dive deep into my soul and look at my journey so far.  It is not always easy to look at yourself, we are our worst critics. Instead of looking at my faults I focus on the good things that have come from me; the blessings and bounty that God has given me; the beauty of my life, the abundance I have; and the amazing things I have done.

We can all find something to be thankful about, or even proud of; think back to something hard-won that you persevered through. If you look at only the positives in your life and give gratitude, you will find that your path will be much different from dwelling on the negatives.  Your journey will be smoother, your path clearer and more rewarding.  If you dive deep you will find your Why for living and doing what you do.  Take some time to dive deeply into your self this spring it will make your year all the better.

Winter’s End…The Cycle of Life

“Winter’s End” Acrylic Painting on Gallery Wrap Canvas, 24″T X 36″W

I am seeing the beginning of Spring in my neighborhood.  Beautiful Crab and Bradford Pear trees are in full blossom.  The days have warmed and the birds are chirping profusely.  It is amazing what a few weeks can bring forth.  It was only a month ago and we were blanketed by snow.  Nature and mother earth have cycled through their darkness and come full circle into the joys of Spring.

That is how our cycles of life flow, sometimes we face bitter cold and darkness, followed by times of plenty  and sunshine.  Many of us ask,” why can’t it always be light and happiness that shines on me.”  As a person of faith I know that you must face the cold in order to appreciate the warmth; hardship in order to recognize abundance; poverty of spirit in order to find the wealth of life.

However, it does not mean you need to be unhappy.  Take those cycles and use them as an opportunity to grow and bring clarity. Find purpose in all you do for Winter’s End is here and Spring is just around the corner.
